Hope And Mercy

'Behold the eyes of the Lord are over those who fear Him, those who hope in His mercy. 1

He who does not have hope in righteous deeds, only has hope in the mercy of the Lord, for when he hears that God returns to each one according to his works, 2 and he thinks of his sinful deeds, he fears punishment, and by warnings he is terrified, lest he be utterly crushed by distress, and so He turns away from human hope to the mercy of God.

  1. I hope you don't think me a gadfly, but I think your translation of Ps. 32:18 is missing something like "those who fear Him" or "those who are in fear of Him." The reason I catch these is that I look at your posts every day and frequently post your quotes on my Face Book page, though I also add the Latin text in addition to the Greek and a cite to PG if I can find it on Patrologia Graeca, and, for Latin-based texts, I also try to find the source in Patrologia Latina. I really appreciate your posts. Pax tibi.

  2. I appreciate the corrections, really. If you have the time, don't stop. Imagine how many silly errors (can't read a Psalm verse correctly!) there would be here otherwise!

But it may be idea to cite PG or PL here, so it would make it easier for someome to track down the excerpt. I don't know of any complete list on-line of Migne authors + works (yes, the works in the volume not just the author) to make it easy for someone to track down a particular piece or excerpt - and perhaps that's another idea to look into!
