Death and Memory

Ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῷ θανάτῳ ὁ μνημονεύων σου. Ὁ γὰρ ἅπαξ τοῖς τοῦ θανάτου βρόχοις ἀλοὺς, ἀπρακτήσει ἂν πρὸς πᾶσαν ἀρετήν. Οὐκ ἔστιν, φησὶν, ἐν τῷ θανάτῳ ὁ μνημονεύων σου. τουτέστιν ὁ τὰς ἐντολὰς τηρῆσαι δυνάμενος, τῆς βοηθείας τοῦ πνεύματος μὴ συμπαρούσης. 'For in death there is no memory of you.' 1 Certainly he who is once bound in the chains of death is no longer able to practice any virtue, and so it is said  'In death there is no memory of you.'
