The poor shall eat and be filled, and they shall praise the Lord who seek Him... 1 Yet not everyone, since not everyone is obedient to the Gospel, but only those who admit the Divine love in themselves. These as feasters and drinkers, he says, shall be filled abundantly with immortal food. And we understand the Divine food to be spiritual teaching, and those who are initiated know what the spiritual and immortal banquet is. 'Their hearts shall live forever.' 1 For even yet bound in the mortal body, with the hope of the resurrection leading their souls onwards, they await eternal life. Theodoret of Cyrrhus, Commentary on the Psalms, from Psalm 21 1 Ps 21.27 |
