Leading And Forsaking

Ὅτι ἐχόρτασε ψυχὴν κενὴν, κ.τ.ἑ. Ψυχὴ κενή ἐστι ἡ ἀρετῶν καὶ γνώσεως ἐστερημένη. Καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἐκ σκότους καὶ σκιᾶς θανάτου, κ.τ.ἑ. Καθὸ φῶς ἐστιν ὁ Κύριος, ἐξάγει ἡμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ σκότους, καθὸ δὲ ζωὴ, ἐκ θανάτου· καὶ πάλιν ὡς δυνατὸς διαῤῥήσσει δεσμούς. Πᾶν βρῶμα ἐβδελύξατο ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτῶν, κ.τ.ἑ. Ὥσπερ οἱ νοσοῦντες πᾶν βρῶμα βδελύσσονται, οὕ τως οἱ ἀκάθαρτοι πᾶσαν γνῶσιν ἀπωθοῦνται. Αὐτοὶ εἶδον τὰ ἔργα Κυρίου καὶ τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ βυθῷ, κ.τ.ἑ. Ὅσοι περισπασμοῖς πολ λοῖς καὶ ποικίλοις διὰ τὴν τῆς ἀρετῆς ἐργασίαν περι πίπτουσιν, οὗτοι ὁρῶσι τὰ ἔργα Κυρίου, τουτέστι τοὺς λόγους τῶν γεγονότων καὶ γινομένων. Καὶ πᾶσα ἡ σοφία αὐτῶν κατεπόθη, κ.τ.ἑ. Σοφίαν Θεοῦ καταπίνει κακία· δικαιοσύνη δὲ Κυρίου διαφθείρει κακίαν. Καὶ ἐσίγησε τὰ κύματα αὐτῆς, κ.τ.ἑ. Σιγὴν τῶν κυμάτων τὴν φθορὰν ὠνόμασε τῶν πειρασμῶν. He filled the empty soul... 1 A soul is empty when it has been stripped of virtue and knowledge. And He led them from darkness and the shadow of death... 2 In so far as the Lord is light, He leads us from the darkness,  and in so far as He is life, from death, and again in so far as He is mighty, He breaks the chains. Every food was an abomination to their souls... 3 As every edible thing is abominable to a sick man, so the unclean reject all knowledge. They saw the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep... 4 However many rise up from the numerous and varied distractions and walk in the working of virtue, these look on the works of the Lord, that is, the reasons why they were done and are being done. And all their wisdom was devoured... 5 The wisdom of God devours wickedness, but His righteousness destroys wickedness. And its waves were silent... 6 He calls the silence of the waves the corruption of temptations. And he made them wander in a pathless place and not in the way... 7 He forsook them to wandering, and He did not take them up because of their wickedness.
