Ἅγιος Κύριλλος Ἀλεξανδρείας, Εἰς Τὴν Πρωτάν Ἐπιστολήν Παύλου Πρὸς Κορινθίους, Ἐκλογαι Source: Migne PG 74.868c | And I will not know the speech of those who are puffed up, but power. 1 The usefulness of splendid oratory, if it has nothing good in it, how is it but a thing of the Gentiles? The oratory of the inspired Scriptures is certainly simple and common, but it profits most abundantly, and it bestows a true understanding of the Divine nature, and then it produces those who care for every good work, who have not become so but by being enriched through the desirable grace of the Holy spirit. For the kingdom of heaven is not a matter of words but acquired by virtue. However if the Apostle speaks of 'power' regarding the saints you should understand it as referring to the fortitude and strength by which, through the Spirit, miracles are brought forth. And if 'power' is spoken of in reference to us, you should think it is said of the power of a holy and pure life.
