Comparing Life And Death

He saved my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from falling. 1

He speaks of the rest to come, comparing it to things here. Here, he says, 'the sorrows of death surrounded me,' 2 there He seized my soul from death. Here tears poured from my eyes on account of tribulations, there there are no tears to obscure the pupils of the saints who rejoice in contemplation of the beauty of God, 'For God has wiped away every tear from every face.' 3 Here there are frequent falls into danger, whence Paul said, 'He who stands, let him see he does not fall,' 4 there a firm foundation, the invulnerable life.
