Ὅτι ἐξείλατο τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ θανάτου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς μου ἀπὸ δακρύων καὶ τοὺς πόδας μου ἀπὸ ὀλισθήματος Συγκρισει τῶν ὧδε τὴν μέλλουσαν ἀνάπαυσιν διαγράγει. Ἐνταῦθα γὰρ, φησὶν, περιέσχον με ὠδῖνες θανάτου, ἐκεῖ δὲ ἐξείλατο τὴν ψυχὴν μου ἐκ θανάτου, ἐνταῦθα οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τὸ ἐκ θλίψεως ἐπιχέουσι δάκρυον, ἐκεὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔστι δάκρυον ἐπισκοτοῦν ταῖς κόραις τῶν εὐφραινομένων τῇ θεωρίᾳ τοῦ κάλλους τοῦ Θεοῦ. Ἀφεῖλε γὰρ ὁ Θεος πᾶν δάκρυον ἀπὸ παντὸς προσώπου. Ἐνταῦθα πολὺς ὁ κίνδυνος τοῦ ὀλισθήματος, δι' ὄν καὶ Παῠλος ἔλεγεν· Ὁ δοκῶν ἐστάναι, βλεπέτω μὴ πέσῂ· ἐκεῖ δὲ πάγιοι αἱ βάσεις, ἀπερίτρεπτος ἡ ζωή. He saved my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from falling. 1 He speaks of the rest to come, comparing it to things here.
