Earth And Knowledge

Οἱ δὲ πραεῖς κληρονομήσουσι γῆν, κ τ. ἐ. Ἡ γῆ νῦν γνῶσιν σημαίνει· ὡς γὰρ ἐν τόπῳ τῇ θεωρίᾳ λέγεται εἶναι ὁ νοῦς. Καὶ κατατρυφήσουσιν ἐπὶ πλήθει  εἰρήνης. But the meek shall inherit the earth...1 The earth here means knowledge, for the mind in contemplation is spoken of as a place. 'And they shall rejoice in an abundance of peace.' 1 The righteous shall rejoice in an abundance of peace, which abundance of peace is the imperturbability of the soul by its knowledge of true things.
