And by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, 'I know Him,' and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in Him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know we that we are in Him. He who says he remains in Him, should walk as He did.' 1

O nurslings of the blessed teaching, let us complete the fair face of the Church, and to our good mother let us run as little children, and so as listeners of the Word, let us glorify the blessed dispensation by which man is educated and sanctified as a child of God, and has his citizenship in heaven, being taught from earth, and there receives the Father, whom on earth he learns about. All things the Word does and teaches and educates. A horse is guided by a bit, a bull is guided by a yoke, a wild beast is caught in a noose, but man is changed by the Word, by whom wild beasts are tamed, fish caught, and birds are snared. Truly He it is who fashions the bit for the horse, the yoke for the bull, the noose for the wild beast, the rod for the fish, the snare for the bird; He both rules and farms; He commands and gives aid and creates all things.

'Therein he made the earth, therein the heavens and the sea,
And therein all the constellations with which heaven is crowned.' 2
