The Cry, The Sun And Sight

In omnem terram exivit sonus eorum, et in fines orbis terrae verba eorum; in sole posuit tabernaculum suum. Terram hic hominem debemus accipere, qui et audire possit et credere. Sonus vero miraculorum fama est, quae pro ipsa novitate per gentes singulas excellenti opinione currebat. In every land their cry has gone out, and to the ends of the earth their word. He has placed his tabernacle in the sun. 1 Here one should understand 'land' as man, he who is able to hear and believe. But the cry is the fame of wonders, which on account of their unprecedented nature ran through each nation, acquiring an excellent opinion. The ends of the earth are kings, who guard their kingdoms like the boundaries of fields, so it was not only to the humble but even to the princes of the peoples that the words of the Gospel came and was declared. There then follows the prophet's sacred proclamation of the Divine Incarnation, so that what he has praised in others, he also is seen to do. From the Apostles, then, he passes to the person of the Lord, which figure is called 'exallage' that is 'permutatio' or 'changing'. 'In the sun' is spoken for the manifestation to the world. The tabernacle is the dwelling place of His body. What, then, I judge to be said with this 'placing in the sun' is that he who has a most pure eye of the heart is able to bear and discern the brightness of the mystery, but he who is embroiled in heretical depravities is struck down by the light of His incarnation, for the blindness of his own error does not allow him to look on the light of the Lord.
