Κέρδους πολλοῦ τετυχκὼς, καὶ λιπαρᾶς τραπέζης, τιμῶν τε ἀπολαύων τῶν ὑπὲρ τὴν ἀξίαν, μὴ ἄγαν κορυβαντία, μεταβολὴν δὲ προσδέχου, καὶ σβέσον τὸ φρύαγμα. Οὐδεν γὰρ τῆς παρὰ τοῖς ἀνθρώποις εὐδαυμονίας σαθρώτερον, οὐδὲν ἀδρανέστερον, οὐδὲν ἀθλιώτερον.
