Flesh and Blood and the Kingdom of God

Sanctus Augustinus Hipponensi, De Agone Christiano
Nor should we listen to those who deny the future resurrection by recalling what the Apostle Paul said: 'Flesh and blood shall not possess the kingdom of heaven,' 1 not understanding that the same Apostle said, 'The corruptible must put on the incorruptible and the mortal immortality.' 2 For when this is done, there shall not be flesh and blood but a heavenly body. Which the Lord promised when He said, 'Neither giving in marriage, nor taking in marriage, but all shall be like the angels of God. 3 For not now to men but living to God they will be made like the angels. Therefore flesh and blood is changed and the body is made celestial and angelic. And the dead shall rise incorruptible and we shall be changed, so it is true that the flesh rises, and true it is that flesh and blood do not inherit the kingdom of God.
