Creating Angels

By the word of the Lord the heavens are established, and by the spirit of His mouth every power of them. 1

By the Father, then, every power of heaven is established, that is, firmly, solidly, stably in sanctification and in all holiness, which power in virtue comes with the help of the Spirit. Here though it is written, 'the spirit of His mouth,' yet also it is given as 'the word of his mouth,' and by this should be understood the Savior and His Holy Spirit, by each of whom the heavens and the powers of it are established. Therefore it is said, 'With the word of the Lord the heavens are made firm, and with the spirit of His mouth every power of them.' An angel, therefore, passes into existence by the will of the creating Word, the maker of everything, and at the same time the Holy Spirit indicates sanctification; for angels are not created as children.
