States Of Death And Life

Those in their tombs shall hear the voice of the son of God, and those who hear shall live. 1

With these words He touches on the order of spiritual revival, and it is touched on in a threefold manner. For there is a state of death and of life and of coming to life from death. The state of death is the state of sin and this is touched on when it is said, 'Those in their tombs.' The way of coming to life is the word of teaching, and this is touched on when it is said, 'They shall hear the voice of the son of the living God.' The state of life is the state of grace, and this is touched on when it is said, 'And those who hear shall live,' as if it was said, 'Those who are dead in sin shall hear the voice of teaching and live the life of grace.'
