Non omnis qui dicit mihi, Domine, Domine, intrabit in regnum caelorum: sed qui facit voluntatem Patris mei, qui in caelis est, ipse intrabit in regnum caelorum. Posuit unum impedimentum ad viam vitae, sciicet haereticos, ecce quomodo et aliud ostendit, scilicet fratres falsos, qui verbo Deum profitentur, factis autem negant, et pendet ex superiori ita. Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven. But he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter the kingdom of heaven. 1 He has set down one obstacle to the way of life, that is, heretics, which He reveals to be those false brothers who profit from the word of God and who refuse the deeds, and who He previously exposed thus, 'Therefore I say that you will know them by their fruits,' 2 because men are not always known by their words, whence He says, 'Not everyone who says to me...' But this seems contrary to this which is said: 'All who invoke the name of the Lord will be saved,' and 'No one can say, Lord Jesus, unless with the Holy Spirit.' 3 Yet to invoke the name and to say it should not be understood as a matter of mere words alone, but it must be understood more deeply, according to which the Psalmist says, 'The Lord is near to those who invoke Him in truth.' 4 He truly invokes the Lord who makes himself into a true servant. Likewise it is not possible truly to say: 'Jesus is my Lord,' unless one is one of His true servants. Thus when He says 'Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,' it is to be understood that it is said about the words alone.
